Five practical questions to help you compare comfort, firmness, organic materials, certifications, and showroom options before choosing a new mattress.
01
How do I know which mattress is right for me?
The right mattress should feel comfortable while supporting your body in your usual sleeping position. Your preferred firmness, body type, and whether you share the bed all matter.
Try several options and spend time lying the way you actually sleep—not just sitting on the edge. A professional fitting can help you compare those differences in person.

02
Is a firm mattress better than a soft one?
Neither feel is best for everyone, and firmer does not automatically mean more supportive. Side sleepers often prefer more cushioning around their shoulders and hips, while back and stomach sleepers may prefer a firmer feel.
Look for a balance of cushioning and support that feels right for you rather than choosing by a firmness label alone.

03
What makes a mattress organic?
An organic mattress uses certified organic materials, such as cotton, wool, or latex, and meets the requirements of its certification.
Ask whether the certification covers the finished mattress or only a component. An organic cotton cover alone does not make the entire mattress certified organic.

04
Which certifications should I look for?
Certification labels can help clarify which materials and processing requirements have been independently evaluated. Review the scope listed for the specific mattress or component you are considering.

- — GOTS: organic textiles and requirements for their processing.
- — GOLS: organic latex.
05
Which organic brands do you display?
The Charleston Sleep showroom displays organic and natural-material options from Naturepedic, Hypnos, Charleston Sleep Organic, and Engineered Sleep.
Floor models and availability can change, so contact the showroom before your visit if you would like to compare a specific brand or model.

Bring your questions to the showroom.
A mattress label can describe materials and construction, but an in-person comparison helps you understand how those details feel for your body and usual sleeping position.
